Mind Your Manners On A Cruise Ship

You are going on a cruise vacation because you feel that you deserve some needed rest and relaxation. But just because you are on a vacation, it doesn't have to mean doing everything according to how you want it to be at the expense of other people's vacation.

A cruise ship most especially those huge mega cruise liners are like small cities with a diverse population of passengers as well as crew members coming from diverse cultural backgrounds all over the world. The only common thing that passengers on board have in common is the desire to have an enjoyable and fun-filled vacation trip to rejuvenate from the stress at work, to spend quality time with friends and family and to have some fun and excitement. But quite often there are certain passengers who get carried away with their behavior and forget to bring along with them their etiquette and good manners.

It is important that you adhere to the cruise's dress code. The ship's daily program of activities shall indicate the proper attire for every evening. Avoid being inconsiderate and ignoring the dress code. Aside from looking inappropriate, you don't want to be stared at.

There are many passengers who pile personal belongings or towels on the chaise loungers near the pool area to save the area for possible later use. Do not be selfish and make the lounge chairs available for other people to use if you are not going to be using it for the moment.

While it is perfectly fine to save a seat for your cruise companion or for your spouse, avoid saving entire row of seats in the show lounge or saving a complete table in the dining area. Do not be thoughtless and give room for others.

If you will be bringing your kids along on the cruise, you should be able to control their behavior. Parents should not allow young kids to roam the ship freely on their own, run around, splash water when taking a dip in the pool, cavort around like horses and play with the elevators not only for their own safety but for the safety of the other passengers on board. While it is true that they should have some fun for it is their vacation too, it shouldn't be at the expense of others.

Be considerate when you smoke and do smoke only on designated smoking areas on board.

It is perfectly fine to jog around the deck on the designated jogging area but avoid jogging early before daybreak as the passengers inside the cabins located below the jogging area on the deck may still be having their sleep. Jog during the indicated hours.

When you are at the gym, wear appropriate workout attire and wipe the equipment after you finish with it. When other people will be waiting for their turn, use the machine for only a reasonable time.

Be courteous and considerate. Bring with you a pleasant attitude and your good manners.
